There is no in between. What is the reasoning for this? Anime targets two crowds: those who are moderately intelligent and hopelessly lost in their emotions and are as a result isolated and lonely, and those who are moderately intelligent and completely lack emotions and are as a result completely isolated and not at all lonely and most likely sell hard drugs to addicts and rob the weak without remorse or shame.
